Aim of Workshop

The Fifth International and Interdisciplinary Workshop on Mathematical Modeling of Environment and Evolution on Social and Life Process (5th IIWEE 2018) will focus the following topics:

- Epidemiological mathematical modeling.
- Ecology and evolution of infectious or vector borne diseases.
- Dynamics of dengue and vector borne diseases.
- Dynamics of tropical neglected diseases.

The first IIWEE 2014 took place in Arizona State University in Tempe AZ. The second IIWEE 2015 organized by the Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia and was held in Villa de Leyva, Boyacá, Colombia. The third organized by National Institute for Research on Public Health INSPI, Quito Ecuador, IIWEE 2016. The fourth 2017 organized by Universidad Naciona de Colombia, sede Manizales in Manizales Colombia IIWEE 2017. The fifth will be held in Villa de Leyva from 28 through 30 June, 2018.

Two introductory short courses on the mathematical modeling of the dynamics of infectious diseases will be offered during the workshop.

The hosting institution is the Universidad de los Andes, which has organized a multitude of mathematical events in Villa de Leyva in the past. Villa de Leyva is a small town in the department of Boyaca, north-east of Bogota, a 4-hour drive away. Villa de Leyva has the facilities and environment needed for networking, exchange of ideas. It provides the kind of space that facilitates the type of brainstorming activities that we expect to lead to future research collaborative efforts.

Organized by:

  • Simon A. Levin Mathematical, Computational and Modeling Sciences Center, Arizona State University ASU Tempe, US.

  • Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia.
